One of the reasons I’ve not been taking pictures at the markets was because I was missing my favorite lens. I had lent it to someone and finally got it back yesterday (woohoo!). In the meantime I had been trying to shoot with another wide angle, but it just wasn’t the same. I’ve been spoiled forever, it seems.

K&K Farms is a vendor I’ve come to really enjoy. Their apriums and pluots are consistently good every year. This, though, is the first year they’ve ever introduced yellow donut peaches. Up until now, I’ve only ever known the floral sugariness of the white donut peach. The yellow has more acidity so you get that peachy bite with an explosion of that sweetness that the donut peaches are known for. YUM. But expensive at $4 a pound. I brought two home. For science, you know.

Really, this time of year it’s easier to say what’s not in season. We’ve got berries of all kinds, peppers of all kinds, plums of all kinds (though I’m waiting patiently for the elephant hearts), figs (kadotas next week), peaches, nectarines, cherries, and on and on and on.

Amy Scattergood did a quickie post in the Daily Dish yesterday about the incomparable cannele – the caramel brown, super crusty pastry with the dreamily pudding-like (maybe more, as Amy says, custardy) creamy center. I had them in Paris and hadn’t found them here (truth is I wasn’t looking too hard…I didn’t want to find them and then end up addicted again). I’ve never seen them at Euro Pane before, but apparently I was just getting there too late – they get sold out quick. I arrived this morning to a fresh plate of them. So I brought a few home. They’re so good. So so good. I may have to learn how to sleep in.
